Opinion- Free to Speak Your Mind
I was just put on the best staff in Bell Chimes today- the Opinion Staff. Why is it the best you ask? Well, because its important. Opinion is change, its putting ideas out in the open and having people contemplate it. I like opinion because there is an endless amount of possibilities for stories, almost aything can be opinion- can be something that makes people think, can be something that brings change. I am glad I'm on this staff because I wish to be able to bring change to the school, bring up issues and ideas that the students can take up on. Opinion can make the school a better place, and the best thing about being on this staff is that I am free to speak my mind on whatever I feel, whatever I think. I don't have to stay on just dates and facts, I can speak freely and that makes the opinion staff the best in Bell Chimes.

LA Times Post
In this article of LA Times we are informed that the U.S is suing Yahoo because they didn't give customer records. What I found interesting is that the U.S is asking for these records in the first place. shouldn't we have a right to privacy? And when Yahoo actually refused the government sued them for it, saying that the records were needed to search for terrorist activity. Right now in my English class we are reading the novel 1984 and all of this about the U.S suing because they want to see our internet records sounds a little like Big Brother to me. I just hope that Orwell's vision of the future doesn't come true, I wouldn't want to be living in some place like Oceania.

All the President's Men
From the movie, All the President's Men, I learned many rules that you are supposed to follow to be a good journalist. The biggest of these rules, in my opinion, is to always write the truth. Other rules include things like always present yourself as a journalist- or you won't be able to use the story-, always have your notebook with your twenty-four seven, and always state your facts- don't go off on assumptions. Other things I learned from the move is to always be always be polite, be trustworthy, and be dedicated- follow your story until the end and don't give up.
The movie has changed my idea of journalism and journalists. I see now how dedicated they are to their jobs, their stories, how many rules they have to follow, and how much hard work they put into their job. I also see how important this job can be. They just don't write news and gossips. With just a couple of words they can change the world, just like Carl and Bob changed the U.S. Journalism is dangerous and in the wrong hands can be disastrous but at the same time they are doing us a great service by informing everyone of things that affect us and can change our future. They inform us at the risk of themselves when they don't have to and I think that makes journalism that much more important.

About Me
My name is Paula, and just this weekend I turned seventeen. My hobbies include reading and writing- if the story is interesting I don't put the book down at all until I'm done with it- and I'm pretty good at drawing.
I was born in the summer but I can sincerely say that I hate it. I hate the sun, I hate the heat, and the sweat, and the brightness of it. The seasons i like better are spring, where its warm enough to go swimming and bright enough be out later than we would be in winter, and autumn, where its fresh and cloudy enough to be comfortable in the day.
I have a younger sister who I do almost everything with, she's just a year younger then me, and two cousins who i spend almost every weekend with. I love chocolate, preferably dark chocolate, and I love Italian food.
I wish one day to be able to go travel the world, especially Europe, and i want to one day become a civil engineer. My favorite subjects so far are History and Psychology, though i did use to love math too, and i'm still uncertain in what university i ant to go to.
